A selected number of new first-year students from the 2021 intake are offered the opportunity to become part of the Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Student group who will meet the Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Pretoria. This initiative was launched in 2016 and has since developed into one of the University’s flagship programmes.
The virtual VCDMA Welcome and Leadership Conference will be hosted by the Department of Enrolment and Student Administration of the University of Pretoria. The programme consists of various informational and inspirational sessions as well as a Leadership Development programme. Please refer to the programme further down on this page.
Prof Tawana Kupe, UP’s Vice-Chancellor and Principal, will meet virtually with students and their parents/guardians. Prof Kupe will also be delivering the keynote address during the official opening of the Conference. The delegates will have the opportunity to virtually meet one another by watching an introductory video of each delegate. These videos will be accessible on this platform to delegates, their parents, senior VCDMA students and selected UP staff as from 08:00 on Sunday, 28 February 2021. The Conference will be officially opened by Executive Director responsible for Enrolment and Student Administration, Prof Carolina Koornhof.
The first two days of the Conference programme consist of various informational sessions that will be presented by professionals who are highly experienced in their respective fields. On the last three days of the Conference, students will take part in the International Leadership Development programme presented by the Common Purpose Leadership Team.
The Conference will commence at 19:00 on Monday, 1 March and end on Friday, 5 March 2021. Your parents/guardians are invited to join us virtually on Monday, 1 March from 19:00 to 21:00 and again on Tuesday, 2 March from 19:00 to 20:00. All the other sessions are for students only.
